Lifelong Learning Index 2007

The results of the second annual Learning Ireland Lifelong Learning Report are here and the findings are just as fascinating as last year's inaugural study...

2007 finds our respondents even more committed to lifelong learning with 87 per cent intending to enrol in part-time education or training over the coming 12 months.

However, there is still a significant measure of discontent with regard to the government's support of adult education: 84 per cent do not feel the government is investing enough money in lifelong learning. A new, and worrying development this year is the notable dip in the educational and training support our respondents receive from employers: 51 per cent believe their employer offers sufficient training and education opportunities, compared with 66 per cent in 2006.

These statistics are derived from the recently published study - 'The 2007 Lifelong Learning Index' - which was conducted by information provider Learning Ireland to measure opinions and trends across the different aspects of lifelong learning in Ireland. 2,278 adults, from all backgrounds in Irish society, and with a wide range of past educational achievement, contributed to the online study, carried out on the www.nightcourses.com websites during September 2007.
